M. Ann Adams, L.C.S.W.-C.,B.C.D. M. Ann Adams, L.C.S.W.-C., B.C.D.

Ann graduated from the University of Maryland with a Masters in Clinical Social Work and attended Baltimore/D.C. Institute of Psychoanalysis Individual Psychotherapy Program. With over 35 years of clinical experience, Ann is a founding partner of Psychotherapy Services, LLC. Prior to her present practice Ann worked at Brook Lane Psychiatric Center in Hagerstown both in inpatient and outpatient community services. Ann has taught Adolescent Psychology at Frederick Community College and has served on several community non-profit boards including Frederick County Mental Health Association, ESCAPE and Heartly House.

Ann works with individuals, couples, families, adolescents and seniors. She works extensively with life transitions, conflicts in marriage, parenting, family and work relationships, adolescent emotional and behavioral development, issues of anxiety and depression and problems of stress, anger, abuse and loss. Treatment consists of an evaluation and then the therapist and patient customizing a treatment program using psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral and family systems approaches.

Alice Berlin, L.C.S.W.-C., B.C.D. Alice Berlin, L.C.S.W.-C., B.C.D.

Alice has been in practice for 35 years. She has a B.A. cum laude from Brandeis University and a Masters in Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has worked in inpatient and outpatient settings and has been in private practice for 25 years. She has a general practice, seeing couples, young adults, adults and seniors.

A member of the Anxiety Disorders Association of America (www.adaa.org), she has special interest in helping people with anxiety disorders, including panic disorder and OCD. Other areas of focus are depression, bipolar disorder and the aftermath of loss. Relationship issues at home and on the job are a considerable part of her practice.

Lawrence Costello, M.D. Lawrence Costello, M.D.

Dr. Costello graduated from the Columbia University School of Social Work and Cornell University Medical College. His postgraduate training was at the New York State Psychiatric Institute and New York Hospital – Westchester Division. He has extensive experience in medication management, psychotherapy, and combination treatment and works with adults and older patients.

Mary Held James, M.D. Mary Held James, M.D.

Dr. Mary James obtained her medical degree at the Medical University of South Carolina and did her psychiatry residency training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She has extensive experience as a psychotherapist and a psychopharmacologist. She has a special interest in the treatment of mood disorders and dissociative disorders in adults.

Sharon L. Kuebbing, Ph.D. Sharon L. Kuebbing, Ph.D.

Dr. Kuebbing has over 30 years of experience as a psychotherapist. She is a licensed psychologist with the State of Maryland, is a Diplomate and Certified as a Sex Therapist with the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists, and is a Diplomate in Sex Therapy and Supervision for the American Board of Sexology. Dr. Kuebbing has her Masters and Doctorate degrees in clinical psychology from the University of Miami in Florida. She completed an internship in clinical psychology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. She has worked at Brook Lane Psychiatric Center in Hagerstown in both inpatient and outpatient services and has been a partner in Psychotherapy Services since 1987.

Dr. Kuebbing works with couples and adults, ranging in age from late teens into their eighties. She deals with a broad range of issues including depression, anxiety, personality disorders, relationship conflicts, grief and loss, separation and divorce and working through life transitions. Dr. Kuebbing has a practice specialization as a sex therapist. She treats males and females with sexual disorders, sexual orientation concerns, heterosexual and homosexual relationship problems, sexual problems resulting from surgery or medical illness, relationship concerns relating to infertility, and recover from sexual trauma.

Dr. Kuebbing has an eclectic approach tailored to the individual or couple and the particular problem, personality and circumstances. She utilizes various approaches including cognitive-behavioral, systems, psychodynamic psychotherapy and relationship enhancement. Collaboration with medical and non-medical colleagues is utilized when appropriate to treatment.

Barbara Lohman-Flynn, L.C.S.W.-C., B.C.D. Barbara Lohman-Flynn, L.C.S.W.-C., B.C.D.

Barbara has 30 years of experience as a psychotherapist. She holds a Masters degree in clinical social work from Rutgers University. She has worked in inpatient psychiatry as well as in outpatient centers in Canada, New York and Maryland. She has been a partner at Psychotherapy Services since 1990.

Barbara works with couples, adults, older teens and seniors. Her practice focus includes marriage counseling, couples counseling, family therapy and individual therapy. She deals with a broad range of issues including depression, anxiety, relationship conflicts, grief and loss, separation and divorce, dealing with transitions in life, post traumatic stress and issues arising from abuse. She has certification in hypnosis through the American Society for Clinical Hypnosis. She has completed an externship in emotionally focused couples therapy. (EFT) She tailors treatment to each individual/couple and utilizes cognitive behavioral interventions as well as psychodynamic treatment.

Robert J. Shuman, L.C.S.W.-C., B.C.D, C.A.C. Robert J. Shuman, L.C.S.W.-C., B.C.D, C.A.C.

Robert has more than 20 years of experience as a psychotherapist. He holds a Masters Degree in Clinical Social Work from the University of Maryland as well as a Masters in Business Administration from San Diego State University. He is a graduate of the Washington School of Psychiatry in individual as well as couples psychotherapy. He is a Certified Addictions Counselor with extensive experience in addictions and co-dependency issues. Robert is a graduate of the Center for Financial Social Work and has worked in financial management.

Robert works with couples, adults, seniors and children ages 7 through adolescence. Treatment is tailored to each individual and may include psychodynamic as well as cognitive behavioral interventions.
